Wanda Greenwood Hollberg is Featured Artist at Bay School Auction Print E-mail

Wandas_Art_Work_1The Bay School invites the community to its 13th Annual Auction on Saturday, October 1.  The featured artist is Wanda Greenwood Hollberg from Urbanna, Virginia.  Wanda has donated her one-of-a-kind abstract stained glass panel “Reflections of the Bay” for bidding during the live auction.  The panel includes: a fired painting of New Point Comfort Lighthouse as it appeared on January 17, 1804…the first night the light was lit. two antique magic lantern glass slides of children playing on the beach around 1900; four jellyfish cut from an antique blown glass bowl; and an antique cut glass crystal that will throw a rainbow around your room as the sun moves through the sky.  The panel is primarily done in clear glass with accents of cobalt, cranberry and green glass. The panel includes a number of antique East German lead crystal jewels, blown roundels, an antique pressed milk glass roundel, a Victorian acid-etched flash cobalt glass panel, Japanese glass game pieces, and dichroic glass.  The panel is set in a background of mouth-blown antique bevels and confetti glass.  This combination of materials gives a sense of privacy with constant movement and change throughout the seasons.

Wanda is an architectural glass artist with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from VCU. As the owner of Greenwood Stained Glass since 1979, she has created many commissions for homes, churches and businesses up and down the East Coast. Numerous gallery exhibits including the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts have displayed her fine work. In 2000, the Virginia Department of Tourism selected her as an exchange artist between France and Virginia.

The Bay School Fine Arts Auction has a Roaring 20’s theme this year.  The setting is Toddsbury, the historic home of Breck and Mary Montague on the North River in Gloucester.  An elegant and abundant buffet of heavy appetizers and fully stocked bar will be served throughout the evening.   In addition to Wanda Hollberg, new artists as well as favorites from the past have offered their fine art for your bidding.  Trips, dinners and more will tempt you to raise your paddle or to bid in the silent auction.

Your ticket cost and winning bids will allow the Bay School to continue to operate and to support outreach programs in our community, schools and nursing homes.  Tickets are available for $65 per person at the Bay School.  Call 804-725-1278 for more information
