The Virginia Historical Society's Award Winning Civil War Exhibition is now Online. Print E-mail

More than 55,000 visitors have been to the Virginia Historical Society since the award-winning An American Turning Point: The Civil War in Virginia exhibition opened in February.  But the VHS has thousands more members and supporters who have not been able to make it to see the show in person.

The VHS recently created on online version of An American Turning Point .  The exhibition, which can be viewed for free on the society's website, features more than eighty images of interesting Civil War items.  It also includes several of the audio visual programs that visitors can experience when they see the exhibition in the VHS museum.

Just like the 3,000-square-foot version, the online exhibition tells the real stories about real people who lived and fought in Virginia from 1861 to 1865.  It looks both at the battlefront and home front experiences of men and women, young and old, black and white, free and enslaved, North and South, and supporters and dissenters.

Sine if the items featured in the online exhibition are also on display in the physical show while others are specific just to the online version.
