On Saturday, July 9th find out how you can liven up your outdoor living space with garden art.
Stephanie Brown, a local artist who teaches at the Bay School and from her studio in Urbanna, will be on hand to show you a simple project you can do with the family to create a special look in the garden.
So what is Hypertufa you might ask?
"Hypertufa is a mud pie or a man-made lava rock recipe used to make forms. It is perfect for making long lasting garden troughs (plant containers), fake rocks and boulders, stepping stones, wonderfully whimsical garden spheres and all sorts of decorative garden accents. Smooth it over to form a mold, let it properly cure (dry) and you'll have a very durable "do it yourself" garden treasure for years to come."
According to Ms. Brown, "You don't have to be an aritst to work with hypertufa. Be willing to get your hands dirty or just wear rubber gloves. The molds for the art pieces can be simple plastic tubs or anything you have around the house. And it's a perfect art project to use up the broken pieces of grandma's china you just can't bear to throw away!"
So spend a cool July morning under the trees as you shop the Farmer's Market in Mathews.
FYI. And for a great cup of coffee and a homemade scone, stop by The Skye Blue just across the street from the market on Church Street.
