The Williamsburg Farmers Market won fifty national spots in the "Discover You Can" canning education program held by Jarden Inc, the makers of Ball & Kerr canning products.  The award will enable the Market to teach the preservation of summer's bounty.  Two Girls and a Hammer Productions will provide canning demonstrations every other week beginning on Satuday, May 28, 2011 until September 3, 2011.

The first demonstration will be how to can strawberry jam.  Samples will be available to taste.  Over the course of the summer, demonstrations will include canning salsa, tomato sauce, and pickled items made from products at the Market.

Coupons for canning supplies, stickers, and canning information will be available each week for Market attendees.  Win valuable canning supplies during contests held during the demonstrations.

Children's Day will be a special event on June 4 and July 2 will be the celebration of the Market's ninth anniversary.  Over 30 farmers, growers and bakers bring their seasonal products for sale each Saturday morning in Merchant's Square.
