Saturdays in Mathews: It All Begins this April.
The Mathews Farmer’s Market opens for the 2011 season on Saturday, April 2nd.
Market hours are from 9am – 1pm.This year the market will feature the usual eye-popping array of organic produce, homemade baked goods and crafts. In addition, this year on any given Saturday you will find “music on the green in the morning”, garden workshops and demonstrations and other surprise events.
Each month one of the Mathews not-for-profit organizations will host a Community Tent on the green. The Community Tent is being added to the market to give shoppers a chance to relax, visit with friends and experience the fellowship a Farmer’s Market brings of the community.
On opening day, April 2nd, Jean Howard will delight market goers with songs and guitar music. Jean’s music selection feature standard country tunes and over the market season she will sweeten your experience by offering her honey and flowers from her vendor booth.
April 16th the Mathews YMCA will host the Community Tent on the courthouse green.
The Y will be on hand to teach kids how to make healthy treats. This is all part of the Healthy Kids Day sponsored by the YMCA. Call the YMCA at 725-1488 for details.
April 23rd. Be the “first kid” on the green to hunt Easter Eggs. The bell will ring at 10am to hunt for eggs. All are Welcome!
April 30th. The Rain Barrel Workshop. Graham Hood and Beverly Homberg are back by popular demand to “talk rain barrels” & “talk mosquitos!” Barrel and materials will be provided if you register in advance. The cost of the workshop is $35. Call 725-5747 to register.
