Supporters of the Richmond and Westmoreland Counties Habitat for Humanity have worked hard throughout 2010 and now into 2011 to complete a new home for one Colonial Beach woman and her family.
The three bed, two bath Cabin Point home will be the 12th built by this affiliate since it began in 1993. Since December, a Christmas campaign drive has raised nearly $4,000 additional funds to complete the work on this home, but in order to finish the task at hand now and retain a “nest egg” for the future, RWC Habitat seeks to raise an additional $15,000 at its annual spring dinner and auction.
This year’s event is scheduled for March 26 at the Woodland Academy auditorium and will feature a meal of prime rib with all the trimmings. Silent auction begins at 4 p.m., dinner at 6:30 p.m. with live auction to follow. Auction items are already being collected from local organizations, individuals and businesses and a DJ will be present to provide entertainment.
To purchase tickets or donate to the auction, please contact event organizers Margaret Riffe at 472-3235 or Maggie Hall at 493-0265. Tickets are on sale via Habitat board members for $30 each.
To help as a volunteer with Habitat, either on construction sites or administratively, please contact Executive Director Suzanna Paradise at 493-1500 or check out http://www.habitatrwc.org/ In addition, Habitat RWC is also seeking local support in the form of land donations in Richmond County in order to begin work on our 13th home.
Patricia Anderson, of Colonial Beach, pictured at Habitat house #12 with her family, has already contributed nearly 200 hours of labor towards the completion of the home. Her children, ages 2 through 12, are all looking forward to moving into their new home. Since beginning with the Habitat application process, Patricia has invested more than three years awaiting a home for her family.
