This year, supporters of one local Habitat for Humanity branch will return to the Rivah for one of the area’s most entertaining fundraisers.
On Saturday, April 24 at Colonial Beach’s famous Riverboat venue the Habitat for Humanity of Richmond and Westmoreland counties will hold “Make the Dream Real”, an auction and dinner party. The event will feature a DJ and dancing along with a live and silent auction and will range from 4 p.m. to midnight.
Tickets are $30 per person and are on sale from board members and volunteers. To get tickets, contact the Habitat RWC office at 493-1500. This year’s goal is to sell 250 tickets in order to raise funds to continue to provide at least one needy family with a safe and secure home each year.
In February, the board of directors for Habitat RWC elected new officers. They include president John Sydnor, vice president Claudette Henderson, Treasurer Bob Jung and Secretary Nick Smith. The organization includes five mandatory committees, including building and construction, family selection, family support, fundraising and church and public relations.
Plans are underway to begin construction on the chapter’s twelfth home, to be located in Coles Point. Volunteers will be needed to help with construction, publicity and fundraising, along with office support via the organization’s Montross office and executive director, Suzanna Paradise.
Founded in Richmond County in 1993, the chapter began including Westmoreland County homeowners in 2000 and alternates between the counties each year for building a new home. During these tough economic times, need is greater than ever to provide low-cost housing for people in need locally. Please consider supporting these efforts by attending the spring fundraiser and signing up to volunteer with this local chapter. To get more information about contributing or volunteering contact Suzanna Paradise at 493-1500 or go to our Web site at www.habitatrwc.org.
