Mathews Art Group Meeting Print E-mail

 Multi-talented Mathews native Wade Brooks will host the Mathews Art Group at their quarterly General Meeting, Sunday November 15.  Brooks who is known nationally for his creativity and skill in blacksmithing, furniture making and refinishing, stained glass and blown glass, will demonstrate how he creates colorful blown glass ornaments.  Those attending will also have the opportunity to tour the host’s fascinating work and display areas.  The meeting which is open to all takes place from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Artistic Design Studios located at 1124 Garden Creek Road (Rte 611) in Mathews.  

Artist Gary Edmondson judged MAG’s first Annual Miniature Art Show on October 26.  Edmondson’s pick for Best in Show in the multi-media event was Linda Walker who took the $125 prize with an intricately-detailed scrimshaw depiction of a leopard.  First place award of $100 went to Bob Haynes for a watercolor of a sailboat.  Buddy Southall won second prize of $75 with an acrylic painting of a water scene.  Third place, a $50 award, went to Ben Richardson for a Canada goose carving.  The winners will be feted at a reception Saturday, November 7 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Gallery on Main Street in Mathews. Contest artwork is currently on display at the Gallery.
