Swingin’ in the Rain
The 2009 Annual Show Features Two Champion Ensembles
Now is your opportunity to experience one of America's original musical artforms, as performed by two champions on the same stage – one, Richmond's own Regional Champion and International Semifinalist chorus, the Greater Richmond Chorus; the other their guest quartet, Moxie Ladies, 2009 Quartet Champion at the Sweet Adelines International contest in Honolulu.
The Greater Richmond Chorus's annual show, Swingin' in the Rain, will be presented on Saturday, November 14, at the Scottish Rite Auditorium, 4204 Hermitage Road in Richmond. There will be two performances, a matinee at 2:30, and an evening show at 7:30.
Act I of the show is replete with humorous plot twists, mistaken identities, and of course great singing. You just may hear allusions to the rainy town of Seattle, where the chorus will travel next year to compete at the 2010 Sweet Adelines International competition, as one of the 35 best choruses in the world. Adding to the variety will be performances from four local quartets and the chorus's community outreach ensemble.
Act II will feature the guests, Moxie Ladies, four energetic, world-class singers – their breathtaking harmony, sophisticated stage presence and witty entertainment will demonstrate just why they won the title "Queens of Harmony."
Act III will again showcase the 70-voice a capella women's show chorus, under the direction of Master Director, Roger Tarpy. You'll hear showtunes, ballads and other favorites in four-part harmony, complete with dazzling costumes and spectacular dancing – all performed by the chorus that just last May won its third consecutive four-state Regional Championship!
