Four Area Wineries Celebrate Virginia Wine Month

October is Virginia Wine Month; visit the Fredericksburg area and soak in the timeless beauty of American history, festivals and events and arts and culture amidst the rich, bold colors of changing leaves and crisp autumn air. Imagine savoring the taste of a crisp Chardonnay as you explore acres of lush vineyards. The Fredericksburg area is home to four wineries that allow visitors to explore the local flavor and savor Virginia wines. The Fredericksburg area offers a travel package geared towards wine lovers. “The Great Grape Escape for Two” includes a tour and tasting at two area wineries, winery gift cards, trolley passes and dinner for two at area restaurants. The package is available online at http://www.fredericksburgvacations.com/

With more than 140 wineries across Virginia, there are more than enough opportunities to savor the grape. The Fredericksburg area boasts an array of award-winning wineries that produce lush, flavorful vintages sure to please the most selective connoisseur. The sprawling, Mediterranean-style Potomac Point Winery in Stafford, Virginia produces vintages including La Belle Vie, Richland Reserve Voignier, Traminette, and Petit Verdot. Rated one of the Top 10 Wineries in Virginia by the Virginia Wine Festival, Potomac Point Winery proudly offers a variety of wine tastings, wine clubs and a beautiful facility to host a special event. The winery’s Fall Harvest Tours run through November 7th. See first-hand how grapes are crushed and learn how wine is made.

Throughout the month of October, Lake Anna Winery is offering a wine lover’s special – a two night getaway package including a tour and tasting at the winery along with accommodations at Stevenson Ridge, an 87-acre historical property located in rural Spotsylvania County.

Located in Spotsylvania County, Mattaponi Winery boasts Native American history, and its significance can be seen in the naming of their unique wines – Wabamin, Odeimin, Makadewamin and Miskwamin. The small, family owned winery has been producing vintages for more than 20 years.

Hartwood Winery, located in Stafford, has been in operation since 1989 and produces award-winning wines such as Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc, Rappahannock White, and Merlot.
