Bay School Announces VMFA Exhibit "Liberties with Liberty" Print E-mail
Written by Debbie Brown

The Bay School Community Arts Center will exhibit a Virginia Museum of Fine Arts exhibit "Liberties with Liberty" from October 29 through November 18, 2011.  This exhibit of 20 color posters, organized by the Museum of American Folk Art and funded by the Xerox Corporation to celebrate the centennial of the Statue of Liberty, traces visual changes in the personification of Liberty in American art.  The posters show examples of 19th century needlework and weaving, and 19th and 20th century painting, sculpture, and decorative objects, including weather vanes, scrimshaw, a trade sign, a gatepost finial and a ship's figurehead, among others.  This exhibit is made available through the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts' Statewide Partnership Program.

For more information, call the Bay School at 804-725-1278 or go online to http://www.bayschool-arts.com/

The Bay School is a non-profit arts organization providing visual arts to all people partially funded by Virginia Commission for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.
