In July, the Virginia Historical Society launched a new program called A View from the Inside
These behind the scenes tours feature areas of the VHS not normally open to the public including the paper conservation lab, museum collections storage, rare book rooms, and manuscripts storage.
Tour participants get the chance to see items in the VHS collection that are not routinely on display in the museum. Behind the scenes tours are offered monthly and each tour is led by a collections curator who focuses on a different theme.
With topics such as the Civil War, exploration and maps, the first four tours were a huge success and several sold out.
