DATES: Through November 16, 2009
TITLE: What's so Radical about Impressionism? (exhibition)
The exhibition features 12 photographic reproductions of Impressionist works from the VMFA collection that show how the Impressionists' radical ideas, techniques and subject matter broke time-honored rules and traditions of art. Included are works by Eugene Boudin, Paul Cezanne, Edgar Degas, Claude Monet, Berthe Morisot, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Alfred Sisley and Vincent van Gogh. Their works are contrasted with a more traditional style in a work by Nicolas Poussin.
