The small Amish community of Painters Mill seems the model of the Plain Life until the community is rocked to its very core by the brutal murders of the entire Plank family. Police Chief Kate Burkholder, formerly Amish but now shunned and an outcast, is called in to investigate. The case is baffling with no clue or clear motive why the family was killed until Kate finds the hidden diary of fifteen-year-old Mary Plank. Mary’s joyful and hopeful entries soon fade into desperation as she tells of her debasement at the hands of someone she loved and trusted. Author Linda Castillo weaves a tale of taunt psychological suspense, which will leave the reader eagerly anticipating the next page.
