The Drowning River: A Mystery in Florence, By Christobel Kent
Written by RHP

Minotaur Books, $24.99

DrowningRiverMiserable Sandro Cellini, recently minted private investigator and former police detective, takes his first case, the apparent suicide of respected Jewish architect, Claudio Gentileschi.  Assuming the case is what it is, a suicide, Sandro assumes he must guide Claudio’s widow through her grief.  But as he begins his investigations he discovers inconsistencies in the last hours of Claudio’s life.  Enter Iris March, student and roommate to Ronnie Hutton.  Ronnie is missing, not as she usually is, partying irresponsibly, but really missing, no contact at all.  And Iris’ attempts to keep Ronnie’s behavior below the radar have attracted the attention of solicitous teachers and a curious policeman, Falco.  When Falco palms off Ronnie’s distraught mother on Sandro, the threads begin to intertwine.  Are Claudio’s and Ronnie’s situations related?
